New Computer Class Graduate!

As you may have heard, Huaywasi is an extension of The Women's Empowerment Program with The Light and Leadership Initiative. The Women's Program offers free, twice weekly educational workshops to women over the age of 18 in Huaycán. Among those workshops is an eight week computer literacy course.

The Women's Program Computer Course meets twice a week for two hours at a time. The curriculum covers all the basic functionalities of the computer: how to use the mouse, type properly, write documents, cut, copy and paste, use an email account, create an email, how to search on the internet, use Microsoft Word, how to save documents in different formats, and how to look for directions using online maps.

Huaywasi is very proud of our seamstress Guillermina, who recently graduated from this 8-week course. Women's Empowerment Program Manager and computer course instructor Patrícia Imada asked Guillermina to write a message to future computer students. Here's what Guillermina wrote:

"Dear future friends, when you find this message you're going to learn that I was also a computer literacy student. I was also fortunate to belong to this NGO. My teacher was Ms. Patrícia Ayumi Imada and she taught me patiently in all classes, since I had never had a computer or sat in front of one before. I would like to tell you that it is never too late to study or learn something good, and with a lot (a lot) of patience, everything is possible for those who believe. And thanks to you Pati, thank you for everything, thank you for being who you are, and may God bless you and save you wherever you go."

Support the continuation of education workshops and courses such as these, for determined and hard working women who deserve an education. Check out Guillermina's beautiful hand-made clothing, and check off those last few Christmas gifts!
