Meet Women's Program Manager Caroline!

Women's Program attendance is booming with LLI's new Women's Program Manager, Caroline Nugent. Read the interview below and get to know a little bit more about Caroline, her favorite Peruvian foods, and her adventurous personality!

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am originally from Hyattsville, Maryland, a suburb right outside of Washington, DC.  I graduated from the University of Maryland last spring, where I studied International Development, Conflict Management, and Spanish culture.  I always knew I wanted to work in development abroad, and was thrilled when I became a part of the LLI team here in Huaycan. When I’m not working, I love drinking coffee, going on a run, or going sailing!

2. What’s your favorite Peruvian dish so far?

That is a tough question! It’s probably a tie between papa rellena and papa a la huancaina de pimienta. I have really loved every dish I have tried here. We are really spoiled in the volunteer house with some of the best Peruvian dishes.

3. What’s your favorite Women’s Program workshop?

My favorite Women’s Program workshop is definitely yoga. It’s such a nice time to unwind and take a break from everything. We currently have a yoga teacher as a volunteer here with us, so we have been lucky to have yoga workshops very frequently! We usually start with breathing exercises, go through the sun salutations, learn a few new poses, and then finish the session with savasana, corps pose. I do need to practice the poses more though, the women always get a kick out of my lack of flexibility!

4. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I will eventually return to the United States after my time with LLI is up, and will look for a job in the DC metropolitan area. But in 5 years I hope to be exploring yet another corner of the world again. I would love to work with human rights-related issues or humanitarian assistance efforts. I have always been interested in these fields, and grew even more interested after studying them so much in college. I would love to visit Korea or Japan next, we’ll see where life takes me!
