Meet Justine, our new Business and Communications Developer

Meet our new Business and Communications Developer, Justine Gilliot, who’ll be staying with us for a few months.

Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

I’m from Belgium but I’ve been living in Switzerland for the past few years. I’m 27 years old, I’ve been working as an Event Planner for 3 years. Before that, I studied Marketing Communications in Belgium (Bachelor and Master’s degree).
I’ve moved a lot in my life: I’ve lived in Belgium, England, India, Singapore, France, Spain and Switzerland (and now Peru for a few months). And I’m always traveling: discovering the world is my biggest passion ! My brothers gave me a scratch map and my goal is to some day scratch all of the countries off :D
Besides traveling, I also love wondering around, reading, writing, cooking and eating. Actually, I don’t eat to live, I live to eat !! Miam miam..

Why did you choose to volunteer at Huaywasi?

I’ve been wanting to volunteer for a few years, to do something meaningful, discover Latin America and improve my Spanish. I wanted to help women empowerment in a positive way, but I wanted to do it by using my own experience and knowledge. Which is why I choose Huaywasi’s: they were looking for someone just like me !

What are your favorite Peruvian dishes so far?

I’ve been loving every dish I’ve had so far! But I have to admit I have a soft spot for the camotes (sweet potato) as well as the aji de gallina (pulled chicken in a spicy creamed sauce) and the sanguche de chicharron de cerdo (sandwich of fried pork rinds). I’m getting hungry just talking about it !

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I don’t really know where I’ll physically be, I’m still wondering where I’ll be living next. Maybe somewhere in South America! I’d really like to have my own business, combining my love for travel and food. But I’m still working on the details so I’ll let you know…

What is your favorite Huaywasi product so far?

We’re actually working on some pretty great new products but we’re still keeping them secret. For the moment, I really like the Sandstone Daria cosmetic bag. Classic with a touch of color, goes with everything!
